Beshear makes education appointments

Gov. Steve Beshear

FRANKFORT — Gov. Steve Beshear has made several appointments to the governing boards of Eastern Kentucky University and the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, which coordinates changes in the state’s higher education education system.

Appointed as members of the EKU Board of Regents are:

*Holly B. Wiedmann, of Wilmore, a developer of affordable housing with AU Associates Inc. She will serve for a term expiring June 30, 2019. The appointment replaces Gary C. Abney, whose term has expired.

*G. Alan Long, of Richmond, is a certified public accountant with Baldwin CPAs PLLC. He will serve for the remainder of an unexpired term ending June 30, 2014. The appointment replaces Anita P. Johnson, who has resigned.

Beshear has reappointed to the Council on Postseconary Education, for terms expiring Dec. 31, 2019: Donna Moore Campbell, of Lexington, who is retired, and Sherrill B. Zimmerman, of Prospect, who is a retired administrator, educator and coach.

He appointed to the council Maryanne Honeycutt Elliott, of Louisville, an executive coach with The Acorn Group for an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2017. The appointment replaces the late Thomas Kennedy Helm.

Beshear also has appointed Marvin D. Russow to the board of directors of the Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance Authority, to serve for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2017.

Russow, of Louisville, is a labor representative at Local 227 UFCW. The appointment replaces Timothy S. Mauntel, whose term has expired.

Beshear has reappointed the following members to the authority to serve for terms expiring Dec. 31, 2017:

*Mark Workman, of Paducah, is executive vice president at BFW Engineering.

*Sam H. Newcomb, of Campbellsville, is retired.

*John Caudill, of Hindman, is a radiology technologist at East KY Health Services.
