McConnellGrimesWASHINGTON – Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes is looking to capitalize on Kentuckians’ contempt for the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Grimes’ campaign released a web ad on Thursday, shown first to the Lexington Herald-Leader, that closes by saying: “Enough is enough. Tell Sen. McConnell to end the government shutdown.”

The ad, which is Grimes’ first since one that accompanied her campaign launch, features Kentuckians affected by recent flooding in Louisville and uncertain of how long it will take for government funds to be available to help with the cleanup.

“As Senator Gridlock plays petty political games, the people of Kentucky continue to suffer,” the Grimes campaign said in a release announcing the ad. “Mitch McConnell has clearly chosen self-preservation over the well being of the Commonwealth.”

This week has seen the match-up intensify considerably in the state as allies of McConnell, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and now Grimes have all purchased and run ads in the last few days.

The shutdown is hurting people across Kentucky and across the nation — but Mitch doesn’t care. He’s fighting to make it easier for wealthy individuals to donate more money to his campaign fund. Mitch’s priorities are totally out of whack. It’s time for him to go.
