Duncan to be in Louisville on Thursday

FRANKFORT — The country’s top education official will be in Louisville Thursday to make an announcement about early childhood education.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will participate in a roundtable discussion and a press conference on Thursday, according to Gov. Steve Beshear’s Office of Early Childhood Education. Duncan will also visit a classroom at St. Benedict Center for Early Childhood Education in Louisville. The St. Benedict Center uses hands-on learning and stresses teacher professional development. It has been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Duncan’s roundtable discussion will be in The Brandeis Learning Center at Brandeis Apartments. Attorney General Jack Conway will also participate in the roundtable discussion. According to Conway’s office, Duncan will announce a new nationwide initiative regarding early childhood education.
