RICHMOND—Lee Greenwood, known for writing and recording the patriotic song “God Bless the USA,” is to appear at campaign rallies Oct. 20 with Republican Congressional candidate Andy Barr.

Barr said Monday that Greenwood will join him at a series of rallies that day in stops throughout Central Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District. He said his campaign will pay for Greenwood’s visit but the rallies will be free to the public.

Times and locations of the rallies have not yet been finalized, Barr said after a campaign stop at Madison Middle School in downtown Richmond.

“We’re looking forward to this,” Barr said. “Lee Greenwood is someone who is well-known for supporting conservative candidates and causes. He’s helping us out because of that.”

Barr, a Lexington attorney, is in a rematch this year against Democratic incumbent Ben Chandler of Woodford County. He lost to Chandler by 648 votes in 2010 out of 239,203 votes cast.

I wonder which took more money – Barr paying Lee Greenwood to leave his “Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 80’s” Tour for a day of campaigning or the cost of filming the ad where he had the VP of a coal company dress up like a real coal miner?
