FRANKFORT — Gov. Steve Beshear ordered Wednesday that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff until sundown Friday in honor of the victims of the Aurora, Colorado, shooting tragedy last week.
A release from Beshear’s office said Beshear has spoken with Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado to extend the state’s sympathies and prayers to the citizens of Aurora.
“Last week’s incident at the movie theatre in Aurora was an unprecedented and unspeakable tragedy,” Beshear said in the release.
“Kentucky stands to honor the victims of this attack, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and all others who were affected by the horrific act.”
Beshear’s order follows a proclamation from President Barack Obama last week ordering the flag of the United States to be flown at half-staff at the White House and other federal buildings to honor the victims.
Beshear is encouraging individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
