FRANKFORT — Lt. Gov Dan Mongiardo and his wife Allison announced Monday the birth of their second child.
Cannon Patrick Mongiardo was born Sept. 28 at 5:17 p.m. Both mom and baby boy are doing well, according to a written release from Mongiardo’s office.
The Mongiardos also have a daughter, Kathryn, who was born in December 2009.
“I have a son now,” said Mongiardo. “Allison and big sister Kathryn are doing fine. I just feel so blessed again.”
Mongiardo said he plans to spend the next few days “playing Mr. Mom as his wife recovers and the family gets acclimated to having two children in the home.”
Mongiardo, who ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in 2010, is not running for re-election with Gov. Steve Beshear. Beshear has tapped former Louisville mayor Jerry Abramson to run with him. Beshear and Abramson face Republicans David Williams and Richie Farmer and independents Gatewood Galbraith and Dea Riley in the Nov. 8 general election.
Mongiardo, an ear nose and throat surgeon and former state senator, has not yet said if he plans on running for another political office.
