FRANKFORT – Hopkins County Attorney Todd P’Pool filed Wednesday to run for next year’s Republican nomination for state attorney general.

P’Pool, 37, of Madisonville, said his first order of business as the state’s chief prosecutor would be to join other states that have filed legal challenges to the federal health care reform pushed by Democratic President Barack Obama.

Kentucky Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway, who is seeking re-election, decided not to join in the lawsuit.

P’Pool has been elected twice as county attorney for Hopkins County. His wife, Shannon, and he have three daughters.

A graduate of University of Kentucky’s law school, P’Pool said he is committed to addressing Kentucky’s serious drug problem and will fight against any federal and state effort to harm the coal industry.

He mentioned the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s “stranglehold” on coal miners’ jobs.

P’Pool is the only Republican so far to announce for the office of attorney general. He said Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders was considering the race but instead signed his filing papers.

Asked if his unusual name were an advantage or disadvantage in running a statewide political race, P’Pool said, “I don’t know. I get a lot of pauses when I tell people my name is ‘P’Pool.’ That’s my name. I will have it throughout the entire election.”

I would love to know the etymology of that last name.

And I hope if David Williams wins, he or some other Republican wins for AG over Conway. That way, when the Republicans start trying to end the merit system abuses that Democrats have fostered for decades, he won’t kow-tow to some whiny-@ss Democrat merit patronage hireling crying about Democrats not being hired in the highway department anymore. You know, like Stumbo did.

Good Luck to you Mr. P’Pool. I hope the Omnibus bill now in Washington fails, because that has large funding for the Obama Health Care Bill in it. That would make your job more difficult (?).

After decades of so many incompetent partisan hacks who have misused the office in addition to simply making a platform for a run for other statewide offices or a US senator, I hope he wins.

We need a real AG who will properly enforce the laws in this state.

  11. I was reading something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your position on it is diametrically contradicted to what I read earlier. I am still contemplating over the opposite points of view, but I’m tipped heavily toward yours. And no matter, that’s what is so great about modernized democracy and the marketplace of thoughts on-line.
