Biden to tout stimulus in Louisville on Monday

Vice President Joe Biden

Vice President Joe Biden

Vice President Joe Biden plans to visit Louisville Monday to discuss how federal stimulus dollars have benefited the state, the White House announced Friday.

Biden will deliver remarks at 11 a.m. at the headquarters of GE Appliances & Lighting. Gov. Steve Beshear and U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Louisville are expected to join him.

Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Jack Conway has a scheduling conflict and will not be at Biden’s visit, Conway’s campaign manager, Jonathan Drobis, said. He declined to identify the scheduling conflict.

GE is making a $600 million investment to expand manufacturing production at Appliance Park, the news release said. Its investment is supported by $24.8 million in federal tax credits.

GE Appliance Park already has added more than 100 new employees to meet increased demand for energy-efficient appliances due to federal rebates, the news release said.

With the addition of three new product lines, they plan to add more than 800 jobs through 2013.

Will this little deal be open to the public so we can tell Biden what we think of him and his boss??

  2. Kentucky Anne says:

Whether you like Biden/Obama or not, the stimulus money helped Kentucky through a terrible time when revenues were down. I am grateful for the stimulus money that came to Kentucky.

  3. Junnor says:

WHICH COMEDY CLUB WILL VICE PRESIDENT BITE ME BE APPEARING AT?

  4. scoopsky says:

KY Anne, Hahahahahah. A few people may have gotten some checks and such to help keep them afloat, and at what cost to the country?!? Short-sighted administration. Why is Biden “touting” this, other than a glorified campaign stop? A trillion $, more debt, no improvement in jobs, a whole new group of welfare entitlement consumers, a high degree of doubt and uncertainty, and an administration who talk down the USA.

Is Biden going to announce that the stimulus is a “Fnckin’ Big Deal?”

  5. FormerDemocrat says:

    *relying*

  6. mike says:

what did the Bush tax cuts do for anyone besides the richest 10%? at least this was done in a targeted way to maintain and add jobs.

  7. ricardo222 says:

what money is being used to build newtown pike that they have talking about for 30 years?

  8. Fred says:

Anne – it worked good for one year, shoring up the budget, but what about the future?

  9. Doug says:

God Bless You!!!!!!!!!!! We need help on jobs here in Kentucky. I wish the president would bailout State Government too. Please come to Frankfort Ky 40601!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. lightbulb says:

The fact that KY’s legislature declined to address our outdated tax system and need for revenue while they had access to stimulus funds to keep us afloat is no one’s fault but theirs – and ours if we keep voting these slackers back into office. Those who think the stimulus funds didn’t help aren’t paying attention or are in denial.

  11. Floyd's Nob says:

ALL ABOARD the vote buying express. It’s a big fu**ing deal and later on Joe Biden will be appearing at the Comedy Caravan.

  12. William says:

How is the “$24.8 million” in tax credits to GE evidence of how “stimulus funds” have helped Kentucky? A “tax credit” is not a stimulus payment from the government, but rather a “tax cut.” In other words, it is a return to GE of tax money already paid by GE.

Put another way, GE got a tax cut, and that has resulted in increased local economic investment. So Biden is coming to tell us how tax cuts benefit Kentucky’s economy? I’m all for that. Glad to see Vice-President Biden is turning the corner and publicly recognizing that tax cuts benefit the Commonwealth’s economic development. There may be hope after all.

  13. Bubbleup says:

Obama/Biden are so popular that Jack Conway scheduled a root canal so he wouldn’t have to be seen with Biden.

  14. Woodbutcher says:

Come on, you idiots who claim to benefit from the Stimulus, please tell me how you were stimulated? Biden is a buffoon and so are you. The best thing we can do as a nation would be to encourage the military to invade DC and physically remove all the fools in the White House and Congress. Hang them all for Treason! Re-elect new screw-head attorney’s (since this is the only thing attorney’s are good for) and inform them, if they screw this country up anymore, they too will hang. We have run out of time!

  15. Big Jay says:

Bubbleup has it correct; Conway is running from this administration. He hopes distancing himself from Obama and the Herald-Leader’s negative campaign against Rand will give him a chance in November. Problem is that Conway is an establishment democrat who’d back Obama every step of the way. Kentucky politics ain’t much different than Chicago politics and Conway’s a player.

  16. Buck Feshear says:

People in wheelchairs who plan to attend, take note. Plugs Biden will be asking you to stand up. Please bring a couple of people with you who can help you in that endeavor.

    “Stand up, Chuck!”

  17. William says:

    Buck Feshear,

I thought for sure that was going to be a Rand Paul/ADA joke. I guess that’s just what I’ve come to expect on this blog. Kudos for going a different direction and being original.

  18. Big Ben 4 liberty says:

I nominate Buck Feshear’s comments for threadwinner. That was too funny.

According to this facebook page it appears conway will be in Washington D.C. raising money. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=126658610706018&ref=ts

I wonder why the media couldn’t report that?

  20. The General says:

I’m sick of this garbage about deficit spending destroying America. I’ve that for ages, and it doesn’t happen. World War II’s deficit spending enriched us

  21. William says:

    The General:

It’s that very mindset that has gotten us to this point.

And you can see it’s working out really well for Greece.

This puts in pretty simple terms why the national debt (a result of “deficit spending”) matters: http://www.bankruptingamerica.org/2010/06/04/in-case-you-missed-it-why-u-s-debt-matters-to-you/

  22. The General says:

Greece doesn’t issue its own currency. The US does. We are not on a gold standard. We do not have some sort of limit on what we can spend. The money supply contracted during the financial crisis which makes inflation impossible. T-bills have record low yields, and it has never been cheaper to borrow. If Europe would dump the euro then they wouldn’t be in this crisis.

  23. Buck Feshear says:

My comment, of course, was based on the incident when Biden was campaigning and asked a handicapped state official from, I think, Missouri, to stand up. Biden then quickly realized that the guy used a wheelchair and quickly tried to correct himself, saying something on the order of “God love you, everybody stand up for Chuck!”

  24. Big Jay says:

Never in history has a fiat currency succeeded for an extended period of time. If our money was backed by gold it would have intrinsic value. It is backed by the full ‘faith’ and ‘credit’ of the US government which means it is backed by taxpayers. If you print more money each unit (dollar) is worth less. Too much money in circulation leads to inflation which erodes savings and the standard of living for people on fixed income. If we print our way out of national debt it will result in our ruin as hyperinflation eats our savings as it did the Germans after WWI. You may be The General but you’re not a leader.

  25. Big Jay says:

    http://www.kwaves.com/fiat.htm
“In a fiat monetary system, the value of money is based on confidence, and once that confidence is gone, money irreversibly becomes worthless, regardless of its scarcity. Gold has replaced every fiat currency for the past 3000 years.” The General says that, “We do not have some sort of limit on what we can spend.” The fact that there are folks who believe this should scare the heck out of prudent people. If we follow his train of thought we will suffer the fate described on the link at the top of this comment. Buy Gold and Vote Conservative.

  26. The General says:

Gold backed currency doesn’t work in today’s age of electronic banking. In fact in today’s post-industrial revolution society we have to expand the money supply every year to keep the economy moving according to Milton Friedman. The current system has worked very well since it was set up. Gold backed currency was a cause of the Great Depression, and it wasn’t after FDR took us off it did the nation begin to recover. That is why the overwhelming majority of economists oppose the gold standard.

  27. denise says:

the ignorance on the board is unbelievable. for those of you that support the gop, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. they make fools of you everytime you vote for them. they also lie and twist the info they have to get your vote. this state will stay red until the people who continually vote for mcconnell, bunning, davis, rogers finally realize that they and the gop do NOT represent your best interest-unless you are wealthy.
get the blinders off of your eyes so you can see. even stevie wonder isn’s as blind as you are.
here is a link that reveals how badly mcconnell and company stick it to us everytime you vote for them.
    http://www.hillbillyreport.org/diary/1679/republican-representation-sticks-it-to-kentucky
now go and have yourselves a happy and then come back and explain how and why you continue to vote for these politicans

  28. Big Ben 4 liberty says:

Ah, and now we have denise the pseudo-populist with the GOP is the “party of the rich” BS for those who want to believe the party line. Well if that is true denise, then why are most of the wealthy elites such as the Hollywood celebutards, the entertainment industry fat cats, the corporatist businessmen who love the Democrats fascist economic policies, the fat cat union thugs who live high on the hog of the union dues they take for workers they claim to represent, and people like billionaire George Soros who uses his political connections to manipulate markets for his financial benefit at the expense of hard working taxpayers all happen to be Democrats? In fact something like the top 30 richest congressional districts in the US are currently represented by Democrats.
