Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo

FRANKFORT — Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo will ask for a recanvass of Tuesday’s election results in the Democratic primary election for U.S. Senate by the close of business on Wednesday, his campaign said.

In a statement, Mongiardo said he wanted to be sure there were no errors in the reported count. It showed Mongiardo trailing Attorney General Jack Conway by 3,542 out of 520,412 votes cast — a margin of 0.68 percent.

“Make no mistake, Daniel accepts the results and congratulates Jack Conway on his hard-fought race,” said Mongiardo campaign spokesman Kim Geveden . “But Daniel also believes, in a race this close, he owes it to his supporters across the Commonwealth who gave so much of their time, energy and money to our cause, to make sure the results are accurate.”

Under state law regarding a requested recanvass, the secretary of state will notify Kentucky’s county clerks of the date for when the recanvassing process of re-tabulating the results of all absentee ballots and vote machine totals from every precinct will take place.

Conducting a recanvass is not uncommon in close elections and Kentucky’s county clerks are experienced in the process that should be relatively quick and simple, Mongiardo’s campaign said.

Buddy you got beat! Get over it! The majority voted for Jack Conway, which means he is the winner. Understand?

It’s not like it’s going to make a difference whether it’s you that goes up against Paul, or Conway that goes up against Paul, Paul is going to be the clear winner come November!!!

I was a big supporter of Mongiardo in the 2004 race against Bunning. But I felt like I didn’t know him this time. He went everywhere, and went overboard, I might add, defending coal and the odious practice called Mountaintop Removal (MTR).

When the hearings were held in Pikeville where comments were sought concerning new regulations on MTR, Dr. Dan said that MTR is like surgery, not nice while it is taking place, but makes everything grand afterwards. I expressed my opinion in my next op-ed column (From the Flip Side, Appalachian News Express) when I said that if MTR is like surgery, it isn’t the kind done in a nice, clean, sterile OR, but the kind done on soldiers after a Civil War battle, in the mud with no anesthetic.

Dr. Dan only got worse after that. He left me no choice. I voted for Conway. Conway said that he, too, supports coal, but added that mining must be done responsibly. That’s all opponents of MTR are asking for.

As for Dr. Dan, I didn’t leave him, he left me.

fedup2here: Yes, that’s what Mongiardo thought too, and he got his booty beat. Let him recount. He is a defeated man.

oh, Lordy…..were there any hanging chads?????

  8. DHagy says:

I voted for this guy, but now I have one question: Don’t you ask for your recount BEFORE you concede?

  9. Paul says:

A recount????…What a waste of the taxpayer’s money. You got beat! Give it up. What a sore loser! Do something productive…go have your eyebrows waxed.
    Can’t say I didn’t see this coming.

  10. keepcalm says:

How pitiful of Mongiardo to waste the resources of those who must recount. Let’s get behind Conway. He shouldn’t need much help, though, trouncing Paul. Were there no real possibilities for the Republican ticket. keepcalm

My issue is the arrogance of JeffCo Dems. It’s like, “Hay mahn, we got the answer and all you got is crap from the paddock; now, go shovel out the fecal manner!”. If Mangy-Mongi takes it on a recanvas, I’m still voting for the Demicrat. We don’t know where Sitty-Boy is on any issue – other than medical care & guaranteed income for the insurance companies. Did his daddie buy him some insurance stock to go with his coal, oil & gas shares?

You-all are the worst winners – and even worse losers – of all time. It’s time for you to understand that there are more Dems in the rest of the state than in JeffCo.

    Quit freaqueing whining!!!!!!!!
