FRANKFORT — Former Vice President Dick Cheney is endorsing Secretary of State Trey Grayson in his Republican bid for the U.S. Senate, the Grayson campaign announced Wednesday.

“I’m a lifelong conservative, and I can tell the real thing when I see it,” Cheney said in a statement. “I have looked at the records of both candidates in the race, and it is clear to me that Trey Grayson is right on the issues that matter – both on fiscal responsibility and on national security.”

Cheney added, “There is no doubt that the real conservative in this race is Trey Grayson, and there is no better choice for Kentuckians in May and November.”

David Adams, campaign manger for Rand Paul, Grayson’s chief rival in the May 18 GOP primary election, said Cheney “appears to have the Grayson campaign false attack ads and establishment politicians in Washington as his only source of information.”

“Had he spoken to Rand Paul or read his positions, he would know that Rand Paul stands for a strong national defense,” Adams said.

He added that endorsements for Paul include Sarah Palin, who ran for vice president in 2008.

Grayson’s campaign manager, Nate Hodson, said Cheney is following the U.S. Senate races across the nation and contacted Grayson’s staff about endorsing Grayson.

Hodson would not say if Cheney plans to campaign for Grayson and appear in any Grayson TV ad.

  1. Halyn says:

This endorsement doesn’t make me any more likely to vote for him.

  2. Steve says:

This endorsement just put the death knell in Grayson’s race, because anyone who is a sensible conservative knows that Cheney is so far to the right that it’s not even funny. I would compare it to having Dennis Kucinich (one of the most left-leaning Dems) endorse one of the Dem candidates, it’s an endorsement you DON’T want or need because it will alienate anyone who is not so far to the left or right of center that they’re considered radicals.

  3. WHAT!? says:

Maybe Satan should endorse Grayson too. I was thinking about voting for Grayson but not now. The last thing we need to do is elect George W. Bush the 2nd to Senate. Rand Paul just locked up my vote.

  4. bozbarb says:

Makes me wonder who Satan endorses.

  5. bozbarb says:

What!? I guess great minds think alike.

  6. Mac Intosh says:

As if I need another reason to vote against the man…

  7. kiss of death says:

I guess Greyson will carry the war criminal vote, if nothing else.

  8. WHAT!? says:

WTF?!?! Why is there a picture of an Asian man next to my posts?????

  9. Gary Sisco says:

That’s one way to guarantee I won’t vote for him.

  10. Ryan says:

    Well said Steve!

This is yet another reason to vote for Rand Paul!!

  11. fulsomefuddle says:

Kiss of death. I appreciate Cheney endorsing canidates, it helps clearly define who is on the side of evil (Cheney’s side); however, in this case there may not be a ‘good’ choice.

  12. CHINGO says:

please wash your mouth out with soap. Your feelings and opinions are obviously valid, but we don’t need your poor language. Is that all you have, or can you try to use a somewhat larger vocabulary?

  13. Shorty Tigg says:

I think bigunit was just quoting the former VP (LOL)

  14. Prof. Gilligan says:

    I’m a staunch conservative.

If Grayson can’t see that having Cheney’s endorsement in today’s political environment, is a really bad idea,….I have to question his ability to make good judgement calls WHEN THEY REALLY COUNT!

Also as a conservative, I take issue with all of Grayson’s television attack ads. We’re not Democrats. Tell us why we should vote FOR you. Don’t tell us why we should vote AGAINST your competetor.

Negitive ads are childish and intellectually lazy.

  15. Chris says:

So? I voted for Bush/Cheney both times but my family & I are still voting for Rand Paul.

  16. Ted says:

    That is scarey

    Did Grayson request his endosement?

  17. David says:

Sarah Palin endosed Rand Paul so he must be bat-s#%t crazy too!

  18. Brother D says:

Cheney has served Satan well. He pushed for a war against a nation that did not openly move against us, and all to hand out hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars in defense contracts, Halliburton the chief among these. Cheney is unquestionatbly responsible for many hundreds of thousands of lives, and all to fill the pockets of the wealthy with even more money. He may THINK he has gotten away with it, but GOD IS NOT MOCKED. His efforts have resulted in not only countless lives, but also added tremendoudly to a deficit that the U.S. could not handle (and now many claim is preferable to the lives of tens of thousands per year to the profits or losses of insurance companies). As the character Maude used to say back in the 70s…. God’ll get you for that…and do not doubt it, Mr. Cheney).

  19. Mike says:

How about keeping this civil and decent. There may be youngsters reading this.

  20. Gin Preston says:

    Kiss of death for Grayson.

  21. Prof. Gilligan says:

Now if we can just get Nancy Pelosi to endorse Jack Conway or Dan Mongiardo,…..

That would also help narrow the field.

  22. phyre says:

    Helloooooooooooo Conway!

  23. Moderate Republican says:

Automatic votes against Grayson will follow.

  24. RARJR says:

Evil has a name and it is D!ck Cheney. Why this miserable human being is out of prison for high treason , is beyond all. Why would anyone seek out Evil D!ck’s endorsement? Surely, Grayson did not want it. If he did….. Grayson deserves to burn in Hell with him.

  25. CHINGO says:

Brother D, before you blame cheney for everything under the sun, please try to understand that there is a body called congress, which is made up of dems, repubs, and indies, that approved the war (twice) and continues to vote for funding it to thei sday. Only a few brave souls, kennedy being one, voted against it. It is easy to demonize one guy, especially cheney, and especially with a lopsided 8 year media attack doing the same thing, but one man (or even two) cannot put a country into war. I blame the weak jelly fish lawmakers in the two chambers in DC.

  26. rd says:

Endorsed by Cheney. He’d probably rather scratch his posterior with a vegetable grater.

  27. mdenis46 says:

If I had EVER considered voting for Grayson, that thought has fled my mind. I will NEVER vote for ANYONE who gets Cheney’s endorsement.

  28. mo_ky_fellow says:

To all of you who enjoy taking stabs at Vice-President Cheney and President George W Bush really should give some serious thought to a time know as “9/11″!

  29. Buck Feshear says:

I like Cheney. I agree with his views on national defense. I also agree with Grayson’s views on defense over Paul’s, although I can’t bring myself to vote for Grayson. It’s funny to see the Paulbots chiming in here with their disgust for Cheney, since their candidate’s views on national defense are pretty close to Barack Obama’s views.

  30. Jack McCock says:

It should be noted that those who oppose Rand Paul’s candidacy do so mainly because they don’t want a true constitutionalist in the US Senate. If you don’t have bad intentions, why should you oppose somebody like this? Those who follow the constitution are promoting the way America was intended to be and should still be today.

  31. Kelsey says:

Old Cheney does it again. Now i vote for Paul or Conway.

  32. Kelsey says:

How much did the Paul campaign have to pay for that endorsement I bet that will finish Grayson now.

  33. Kelsey says:

Dear What, are you a legal American, i bet you cant vote.
