House passes juror and radon bills; GOP fails again with discharge petition
FRANKFORT — Any Kentuckian who is at least 80 and disabled may have his or her name removed from the list of prospective jurors under a bill the House approved 85-5 Friday.
House Bill 372, sponsored by Rep. Tom Riner, D-Louisville, now goes to the Senate for its consideration.
The House also approved on a 85-5 vote HB 494, which regulates professionals who measure radon gas in buildings.
Also, Rep. Stan Lee, R-Lexington, tried to get the House to remove from a committee and bring to the House for a vote a resolution that would declares states have sovereignty over powers not given to the federal government by the U.S. Constitution.
But House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, said Lee’s discharge petition was out of order.
Stumbo had made the same ruling Thursday when Rep. Joe Fischer, R-Fort Thomas, filed a discharge petition to remove from a committee a bill to require women to see ultrasound images of their fetuses before undergoing abortions.
