Louisville Labor Council endorses Mongiardo for U.S. Senate
FRANKFORT – Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo has picked up the endorsement of the Greater Louisville Central Labor Council in his Democratic bid for the U.S. Senate.
Mongiardo noted Monday in a news release that the labor group voted overwhelmingly Saturday for him in the hometown of his chief rival, Attorney General Jack Conway.
“While I consider many members of the Central Labor Council as friends, I know it took courage to publicly stand with me in my opponent’s hometown,” Mongiardo said.
“I am humbled by labor’s support because their action demonstrates they trust me to stand up and fight for them – to put the interests of Kentucky’s working families and small businesses on Main Street ahead of Washington establishment politics and Wall Street.”
Mongiardo’s campaign said his showing Saturday “suggests that Conway may be more vulnerable in his hometown and the state’s largest city than many political observers and pundits first thought.”
Mongiardo received 76 percent of the votes cast from delegates representing 17 labor unions and more than 28,000 working men and women in the Louisville-Metro area.
Conway’s campaign said Conway has “broad support from Kentucky labor unions representing approximately 100,000 workers across the state.”
It said Conway has been endorsed by UFCW Local 227, Teamsters Local 89, Jefferson County Teachers Association (JCTA), UFCW IN-KY State Council, UFCW Distillery Workers Council, UFCW Chemical Workers Council and Teamsters Joint Council 94.
In addition to the Greater Louisville Central Labor Council, Mongiardo has also won either the endorsement or the official recommendation for endorsement from the Western Kentucky Central Labor Council, the Owensboro Area Building & Construction Trades Council, the Tri-State Building & Construction Trades Council and Kentucky Machinists.

The CJ has not even mentioned this on their site. No suprise, since Jack is a River Fields darling and they avoid printing anything that makes him look bad.
I could care a less who some union supports. Unions have a big mouth in the democratic party, but are only a smal piece of the party. i would rather have the support of the mighty middle myself if I was running for office.
