I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. This has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. What are they going to do? Pull over every young-looking person talking on a cell and check their ID? Discrimination, anyone? Oh, Big Brother.

actually, ALL non-driving functions should be banned in cars. There is no excuse and no reason to exclude any activity that could distract a driver. This is ridiculous. Why are we picking on one activity?

We should have laws that ban people from tail gaiting, speeding, weaving, and driving off the road. Oh wait, we already do.

I support the overall spirit of this bill that attempts to reduce driver distraction by placing limits on cell phone usage. However, I think this bill is somewhat hollow in that it does not prohibit all cell phone usage. The NHTSA provides that cell phone use, either texting or calling creates an additional 20% chance of being involved in a traffic crash, nothwithstanding other distactions, speed, environmental factors etc. Common sense dictates that more motorists talk on the phone than text. Therefore, by failing to include the vast majority of the distracted drivers, you are merely putting a band-aid on mortal wound.
