What I find interesting about most of this are the opinions on tactics from politicians and commentators (Fox, CNN, MSNBC) who have never served one day in the military.

The premise that a time line is going to derail all efforts is propaganda. If the "enemy" wanted us out and could "just wait us out" then they would with/without a time line.

To put it pure and simple all they have to do is decide to not do anything for 12 months we would say everything was fixed and leave anyway. It is an absolute ridiculous political argument founded on ignorance and quick TV/Radio one-lines.

The only reason that previous "occupiers" have failed is because they wanted it to be a war. The fact that we put a time line on it stipulates that we are "here to help if you want and are motivated to" otherwise we will invest our $30 billion dollars our border safety and call it a day.

Iraq was a vendetta attack, Afghanistan / Pakistan is an opportunity to improve lives. But on the flip side there are MANY nations around the world that could benefit more from in intervention and be cheaper and have long-term success.

The US should not send more soldiers. The British couldn't establish order, nor could the Soviets. Afghanistan is where empires go to die.

As always the opinions vary from politicians. from a private citizens standpoint the troop increase is important and has to transpire if we are to have a positive outcome.the only other alternative is to withdraw all US soldiers immediately. we(the US) have a tendency to band aid and draw out in the interest of political correctness (which is out of hand) and doing that causes more long term damage.Russia was involved in Afganistan for 20 years and left no better off than before the start and we supplied weapons to this country.
