Paul leads Grayson in new U.S. Senate race poll
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo holds a double-digit lead over Attorney General Jack Conway to be the Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate contest, the poll said.
The WHAS11/Survey USA poll, released Tuesday night by the Louisville television station, showed Paul leading Grayson 35 percent to 32 percent.
Paul is the son of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who ran an unsuccessful but spirited campaign for president last year.
Paul’s campaign spokesman, David Adams, said Paul’s lead in the latest poll “is not unexpected at all. We’re just getting warmed up.”
Grayson’s campaign manager, Nate Hodson, said in a statement, “Poll numbers bounce around, but the one thing these polls have consistently shown is that Trey Grayson is the strongest candidate to hold Jim Bunning’s seat in conservative hands next November. Election Day is the only poll that matters, and that’s the one we’re working towards.”
Bunning decided earlier this year not to seek re-election.
The latest poll has a 4.1 percent margin of error. It shows Grayson down 5 percentage points from its last poll 11 weeks ago and Paul up 9 percentage points.
Mongiardo leads Conway in the poll, 39 percent to 28 percent.
Mongiardo also showed 39 percent in the last poll, but Conway is slightly down.
The poll also showed that a third of the likely voters in each primary don’t back any of the four major candidates.

It’s no wonder Rand Paul has taken the lead. He’s a good candidate who articulates his ideas clearly. Grayson should try talking about issues Republicans care about.
I heard Rand Paul speak in Nicholasville. He won me over, for once a politician answered questions without some sort of run around. He was honest and intelligent. I wonder why he would even want to be a politician. Maybe that is why I will vote for him. I am tired of voting for more of the same.
Rand Paul is the better candidate. He represents the needs of Kentuckians. Trey Greyson is the establishment, more of the same, candidate. Let’s hope Kentucky decides to make Rand Paul the Republican contender for the opening in the Senate.
I guess Conway’s dirty tricks backfired a little. Now I hope the DC crew gets behind DR.DAN and goes for the big win. Jack’s millions can’t get him to 30%? Time to go and get behind the winner and that’s DR.DAN!
What a joy it is to hear Rand Paul. He speaks from the heart and says what he thinks. That’s because he’s not a politician! This country is being killed by “the status quo”. Rand Paul is for true reform.
Rand Paul = Doug Hoffman
Trey Grayson = Dede Scozzafava
Go Rand Paul!
“Grayson’s campaign manager, Nate Hodson, said in a statement, “Poll numbers bounce around, but the one thing these polls have consistently shown is that Trey Grayson is the strongest candidate to hold Jim Bunning’s seat in conservative hands next November. Anybody else but me see the irony in that statement??? Maybe Nate Hodson will vote for Paul in November???
Rand Paul is no conservative. He’s a libratarian. 6 out of every 7 dollars he has were raised OUTSIDE of Kentucky. What does a poll showing he leads by 3 points with a margin or error over 4 points? ITS TOO EARLY IN THE RACE FOR PEOPLE TO DECIDE. It could go either way. As a Democrat, Grayson has a shot at my vote, but Paul doesn’t. (Rand Paul: Too kooky for Kentucky.)
M Jones, if you are a Democrat why should a candidate being “no conservative” make him less attractive to you? If anything, libertarians (“libratarians?” are those like librarians?) should be more attractive to Democrat voters due to their support peace and an end to imperialist foreign policy, uncompromising defence of civil liberties, and zero tolerance for corporatism/corporate socialism.
Rand Paul is – get this – a Ron Paul Republican. He is not a neocon, and if you think that’s a bad thing then you are either are receiving benefits courtesy of taxpayers and “more of the same” politicians or you have very little understanding of our political landscape.
@ M Jones – I find it strange that you would call someone who\’s ideals are in line of those of our Founding Fathers “kooky”. Was Thomas Jefferson “kooky” for calling for limited government? Was George Washington “kooky” for warning us of the dangers of foreign entanglements?
@ J Duncan — I agree completely. People have lost sight of a traditional conservative. I will vote for anyone who supports a small government.
Big government will destroy us all
People like Rand Paul give me hope for America.
Rand Paul, all the way.
@MJ If your gonna spout facts at least get them straight. While Trey Grayson has a higher percentage of instate donors than Rand Paul, Rand Paul actually has more instate donors than Trey. So please stop trying to spin the facts, but spin and word twisting I am sure are your forte since you seem to support neocons, who funny enough are not conservative either. Btw when you say he is not a conservative but a libertarian, what beliefs do you think conservatives are trying to “conserve”, perhaps the libertarian ideals this country was founded on???
I like Rand Paul.
@MJ You’re a Democrat and Trey Grayson might get your vote? That is exactly why Republicans should vote Rand Paul. Do you want to be a party of limited government and conservative values? Or does the GOP want to be just Democrat lights??
If Rand Paul is too kooky for KY, then what is Obama? Just right?
Dr. Rand Paul is a true Republican who cares about limited government. I look forward to the day when Rand gets Bernanke under oath!
Rand Paul is a Constitutional Conservative and he is just what Washington needs.
59% of Mitch McConnell’s money for his 2008 reelection campaign came from out-of-state. Mitch McConnell was born in Alabama. It wasn’t a big deal then, and it is not now.
Don’t buy this spin that Grayson is concerned about any of that, he’s just a desperate, sinking politician.
Wow sounds like the RP campaign is spending alot of time making comments. It just seems like alot of the same Blind faith without true facts that inspire the teabaggers. Its really bringing my party, the real GOP, down.
Realistically, how much do you think any Jr senator from Ky can achieve in their first term? Bernanke under oath? Reduce the size of the entire federal government? Do anything that warrants a comparison to Jefferson or Washington? Really?
Mitch has been there for decades and has risen up the ranks. Has he done any of these things? No but lots of other great achievements worth bragging about.
Lets view this race realistically, not with retoric.
I hope Dr. Paul doesn’t quit his day job. Grayson is going to win. It doesnt matter who raises more money (ask his opponent for SOS)it doesnt matter who has more koolaid drinking followers (but its clearly Ronnie). Its all about who’s real with real goals and who’s fake spouting one liners and useing hoopla for attention. Ron Paul is a good entertainer, and so is Howard Stern, but I don’t want either to represent me.
I might have given this guy a listen until I heard him make a statement about the democratic health care reform plan being out to “kill grandma”. Sounds like to me he’s fallen in with the radical right and neo-cons who are championing big insurance over meaningful reform. Kentucky is enough of a laughing stock as it is. We don’t need another moronic neo-con making us look stupid in the congress
“Grayson is going to win.”
You just go right ahead and keep telling yourself that, Baghdad Bob.
To borrow from the anti-spam word thing, Grayson is: TOAST
What are Grayson’s “real goals”? He has none.
Rand Paul speaks from the heart. He believes what he says. Grayson is just an establishment hack looking for power while parroting safe talking points.
Jake, I think you’re missing the whole point of the Tea Party crowd and I really think the establishment GOP has too. The “real GOP” as you put it has brought itself down over the years with it’s “realistic” idea to be Democrat lite and continually persue ever expanding government in almost every area unabated. Ironically, some then go on at the national level of influence to try and stack the deck with guys like Grayson, Crist, and the lady in the 23rd NY in open primaries becuase they think the reason we lost is because we Republicans aren’t Liberal enough.
I’ve yet to hear Rand Paul or Trey Grayson say anything of substance.
Enjoy the poll numbers now because Ron Paul won’t have a chance at winning, give me a break. The lovefest for Ron Paul will come to an end when the race actually starts. As for the Dems, it really doesn’t matter who is leading, both are also rans. Really people, do you think Repubs in Ky would vote for someone like a RON Paul, lol.
Dr.Dan has expanded his double digit lead on Jack Conway. I think people are realizing that Jack is spending too much time jetting to fundraisers in DC, NY and Houston and not doing his job as AG
“Enjoy the poll numbers now because Ron Paul won’t have a chance at winning, give me a break”
Another person in full denial.
“Enjoy the poll numbers now because Ron Paul won’t have a chance at winning, give me a break.”
Oh second thought, this person is right. It’s RAND Paul that will win.
Go Rand!!! Thanks for being a powerful voice for those who still believe in the Constitution! We’re behind you all the way… the American ideal of liberty will never die!
This poll is from a very isolated area and does not show the state perspective.
Once again, you’re suckered into misinformation and slant of statistics.
But I just love the “feel good” that this makes each of you feel.
Losers!!
Did you know, an interesting tidbit, at least for me. Jack Conway’s campaign manager/spokesperson also served the same function for Al Sharpton. Charles Halloran is also a close friend and ally of Roger Stone, considered as one of the more covert players in politics. Interesting bedfellows. It’s worth checking out if you are worried about the implications of who wins the Senate seat and exactly who pulls the strings

Dear Hal Rogers:
Please get in the Senate race. Kentucky needs you. Grayson’s a RINO and Paul’s a kook.
Sincerely,
A true conservative Kentuckian
Rand is doing a great job of dividing the Republican party. If a democrat wins this senate race one year from now, we will have Rand Paul and his supporters to thank. Instead of focusing on substance, they are trying to belittle a good man and a great public servant. I am so tired of all the Rand Paul rhetoric. First, he is mad because Trey is a government official and shouldn’t be seeking another job. Now he is complaining because Trey was doing his current job. Instead of complaining about Trey, Rand should follow Ronald Regan’s advice and not say an ill word about another Republican. Plus, we don’t want to have to bring up that Rand is leaving his patients behind in order to campaign. And quit saying that you don’t know Trey’s views: he has had them for years. And if we really want to check views, wasn’t it Rand who was against Kentucky’s economic engine: COAL? So to Rand and his supporters: STOP ACTING LIKE CHILDREN. Let’s focus on substance and keep our party united. Because, when we don’t, we lose elections. And even if you don’t like Trey as much as you do Rand, you have to admit, he’s a whole lot better than Dr. Dan or Jack Conway.
So are McConnell and Cornyn going to get involved with funding Grayson’s crappy candidacy in order to bail him out?
Without party funding, Grayson is toast.
I can’t wait to see the public reaction to Paul’s libertarian social views. It’s about the only thing that I like about him but then, I’m a liberal democrat. Let the blood- bath begin!
@Rand?
So, what is the point of a primary election then?
@PikeCoGOP
The point of a primary election is to select a candidate who can best represent the party and win a general election.
It is not to divide a party. Just look what happened in NY-23. When the GOP divides, Dems win.
