FRANKFORT — Valeria Cummings Swope, a former anchor and reporter for Lexington’s WKYT-TV and director of communications for the state Finance and Administration Cabinet for the last 14 months, is the new director of communications for Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo’s office.

“I am very pleased to have someone with Valeria’s expansive news and public information background overseeing the daily communications efforts of my office,” Mongiardo said in a statement. “She has done an admirable job in a very demanding position at the Finance Cabinet. I look forward to having her on staff.”

Swope replaces Sarah Baird, who has been working out of the governor’s office for almost a year. During that time, she continued to handle press work for Mongiardo’s office as well as communications work for Beshear. She will remain in the governor’s office.

Cindy Lanham will replace Cummings as director of communications for the Finance and Administration Cabinet.

For the last two years, Lanham has served as public information officer for the Department for Local Government.

“Although I am sorry to see Valeria go, I am very pleased to welcome Cindy to our Cabinet,” said Finance and Administration Secretary Jonathan Miller. “Cindy worked for me in the state Treasurer’s office when she was a college student, so I know first hand how very capable she is of doing this job. I am happy to have her on board.”

    Not a very smart move.

Valerie C is a reader. That means she does not write news, just reads it.

Dr. Dan, you could have done much better.
How many jobs has this woman had since being let go by Ch27?

    Not well thought out.
