Barr says he raised $185,000 for Congressional seat
FRANKFORT — A Lexington lawyer mulling a run for the 6th Congressional district seat announced Wednesday that he has raised $185,000 over the past two weeks.
Andy Barr, 36, announced Sept. 16 that he was forming an exploratory committee to seek the Republican nomination for the 6th District seat currently held by Democrat Ben Chandler.
In a news release, the former deputy general counsel for former Gov. Ernie Fletcher said he had raised $185,199.50 for the fund-raising quarter that ended on Sept. 30.
Barr said about $45,000 of that money was raised online. Other Republicans who have signed on to Barr’s exploratory committee include Ralph Hacker, a former announcer for University of Kentucky athletics, and Jim Host, the founder of Host Communications.

Right now I’m for ABC (Anybody but Chandler). Ben has been a total sell-out in Washington. Maybe he enjoys his taxpayer-funded trips to the Galapagos Islands too much to say no to Speaker Pelosi. I will work for anyone who can help Ben find a new job!
Chandler had voted with Pelosi on every major issue including “Cap’n trade”.
I am sure he will follow her lead on health care too.
SHAME ON HIM.
He has forgotton the political make-up and real needs of the 6th.
I also think he needs a strong message .
Goodby Ben !
Jim
I’ll continue to support Ben Chandler as long as he continues to represent me, and so far, so good.
He’s as good as they come. Would make a fine congressman.
Mr. Barr will represent the 6th congressional district with integrity and heart. I am fully behind this candidate.
I agree with Rick & Jim. Ben needs to go. I’ve supported him in the past, but since he decided to leave the blue dogs and become a liberal Pelosi follower. I’m done with him. I’ll support Mr. Barr.
I will vote for Barr if Ben votes for this health care package.
As long as Ben votes for Pelosi for Speaker, I will not vote for him as my congressman.
Andy Barr is as shallow as Chandler is deep…he gets by on his Daddy’s contacts and reputation and knows about as much substantive policy as a stump. If you want to shift your representation to someone who will use his position to feather his own nest and those of his friends, vote for Andy.
Chandler is at least making positive strides toward a solution. Our other federal leaders from Kentucky must be having extremely easy days since all they say is “NO” with little or no reason for their opinion other than it is a “PARTY RESPONSE”.
Almost like a number of these posts. Once again, I’m willing to bet that the naysayers are listening to too many talking heads and not understanding that there is on 1-4 points where there is disagreement.
We need solutions and Chandler is at least moving forward instead of staying stagnant.
KY1911 – you should get back to your job in Congress. Stop posting on silly blogs and at least pretend to do what people elected you to do.
I know for a fact Andy Barr was chin (not knee) deep in the illegal activities in the Fletcher Administration, Pardoned of course. Is there no one else besides Bend over Ben and a known Pardoned Political hack like Andy Barr? BTW You do not get a pardon unless you are guilty but then most of the time justice is served then your pardoned, he is a good lawyer they figured out the Gov could take care of their misdeeds and walk away.
if Chandler doesn’t get his act together he will be defeated. H e will be another “has been” just like Beasler and Dee Huddleston. They thought they were so popular they could vote any way they liked and no one would notice. Kentucky is conservative Mr. Chandler. I have voted for you each time but my patience is wearing thin. If you claim to be a Blue Dog Democrat then act and talk like one but foremost vote like one.
Amazed, care to spell out exactly what those illegal activities were?
I won’t hold my breath, because you can’t. It’s not illegal to terminate an employee who has not completed his probationary period.
Isn’t is odd that if you don’t have the same view as liberals that means that you listen to “talking heads” .
I think it is clear who thinks in lock step with “talking heads” and the Hearld-Leader .
Liberal opinions are no more valid than more conservative opinions. They all have some merit.
At one time Ben Chandler was a free thinker. That is what the 6th. district needs. If he dosen’t change he will be defeated
Jim
Congressman Chandler was one of very few democrats who voted in favor or expanded offshore drilling for oil and natural gas. This vote was to help keep prices down by increasing supply. He holds a position on the appropriations committee and that is important for all Kentuckians. I do not have to agree with elected officials on every issue in order to support them. Ben is intelligent and honest. He has the potential to become chairman of the appropriations committee in the future. I hope the voters of the 6th district elect him many more times.
I always thought Ben Chandler was a free thinker, and he was until he got to Washington and sold his soul to the democratic leadership. He and Pelosi are hooked at the hip. Ben will not lift a finger against Pelosi. Pelosi’ views are certainly not in line with the views of central Kentuckians.
More hand picked GOP hacks… just what the GOP needs. NOT!
Matt Lockett has been in this race longer than anyone! He was the first to say enough is enough after Ben Chandler voted for the Cap and Trade bill last summer. Matt has traveled the 6th District over the past year listening to voters.
He was asked over and over:”You are just one man what will you be able to do?” He listened and decided he had to do something about that. So he Cofounded the Conservative Freshmen Coalition to be able to go work for us as soon as he is sworn in. The CFC is has grown now to 50 Conservative candidates from all over the country!

Matt is not a career politician and he is not a lawyer he is a common man with a great vision! He has proven he will listen to the voters of the 6th District!
